IRON MAIDEN: FLIGHT 666 - THE MOVIE
(Published: January 20, 2009, courtesy of ironmaiden.com)
British heavy rock legends, Iron Maiden, in association with Banger
Productions, EMI Records, Universal (USA) and Arts Alliance
Media, announce that they will be releasing a feature length
documentary film into cinemas worldwide on April 21st 2009.
As you may know from Rod's tour diaries, Iron Maiden have been
working on a feature length documentary. Entitled "Iron Maiden:
Flight 666," the movie follows the band on the first leg of their "Somewhere Back In Time World Tour" in February and March of 2008 as
they experienced the most ambitious and adventurous tour in rock history, and will be released in April, 2009 in association with EMI
Records and Universal in the USA.
The Maiden tour plan was something that had never been attempted before on such a grand scale. Circumnavigating the globe, the band flew
in a specially customised Boeing 757 airliner with their crew and 12 tons of music and stage equipment on board, playing 23 sold out stadium
and arena shows in 13 countries in just 45 days, travelling 70,000km and performing to almost half a million fans.

The band were accompanied everywhere by award-winning
documentary makers Banger Productions from Toronto in Canada,
who have received international critical acclaim for their previous
movies "Metal, A Headbangers Journey" and recently "Global
Metal". Filmmakers Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn and their team
bring an intimate behind the scenes view of this remarkable
journey, with a close look at the logistics involved and following
Team Maiden in the cockpit, on the plane and on and offstage,
getting to the heart of this global adventure of a band that has
very rarely even let cameras backstage before.
Shot in High Definition and with superb 5.1 surround sound, mixed
by the bands producer Kevin "Caveman" Shirley, "Flight 666" brings
to the screen all the drama, excitement and hysteria that
followed the band around the world every time "Ed Force One"
touched down in a new country. The film documents the intensity
of the punishing show schedules, the struggle with the time zones, the pressures of ensuring that every performance matched the energy of
the many thousands of ecstatic and expectant fans from many cultural backgrounds, unusual angles from the spectacular shows... and of
course the fun had on the way!.
"Iron Maiden: Flight 666" is an honest and revealing portrait of one of the worlds most successful rock bands and a must-see for all Maiden
fans.
A special international 'Iron Maiden' day is being planned for 21st April with simultaneous showings of IRON MAIDEN:FLIGHT 666 in
selected Digital cinemas around the world - we (at ironmaiden.com) will of course bring you more information on this nearer the time.
Ed Force One: Iron Maiden is headed for a cinema near you.
Singer Bruce Dickinson, who is also a pilot for Astraeus Airlines, plots Ed Force One's course.

Tommy Bolin book author to guest on "Electric Ballroom"
Tune in to the "Electric Ballroom" radio show with hosts Aimee Kristi and Keith
Roth on WRAT this coming Sunday (January 25) at 10:00 p.m. EST for an
interview with Greg Prato, author of the new book "Touched by Magic: The
Tommy Bolin Story" — which is said to be the first book to focus entirely on the
life story of guitarist Tommy Bolin.
You can listen to the program live on 95.9 WRAT FM in the New York/New
Jersey area or via the Internet at www.wrat.com (hit "Listen Live").
To many, Tommy Bolin was the legitimate heir to Jimi Hendrix's rock guitar
throne. Stints with the James Gang and Deep Purple — as well as solo albums and
a groundbreaking release with jazz-rocker Billy Cobham — certainly proved that
the adulation was rightly deserved. And with a techno-color fashion sense, he
certainly stood out from the pack. Only one problem, Tommy had a death-defying
drug addiction, which ultimately would lead to a premature and tragic end before
he was able to truly take his standing among the elite musicians of the world.
A longtime fan of Tommy's music, Greg conducted interviews with such renowned
rock names as David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, Eddie Kramer, Carmine Appice, Jan
Hammer, Martin Barre, Jimmy Haslip, Mark Stein, Prairie Prince, Dale Peters,
Jim Fox, Alphonse Mouzon, Kenny Passarelli, Henry Paul, Narada Michael Walden,
Reggie McBride, and Otis Taylor, as well as Tommy's brother, Johnnie Bolin
(among countless others), for the book.
While it will obviously appeal to fans of Tommy Bolin, this 252-page paperback
book (whose title comes from a phrase that keyboardist Jan Hammer once said to
describe Tommy's guitar playing) will also be of interest to fans of classic rock in
general, as large portions of the book focus on Deep Purple, the James Gang, and Billy Cobham, while you'll find additional stories that
involve Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, Jethro Tull, the Mahavishnu Orchestra, the Tubes, Moxy, the Outlaws, and Jimi Hendrix's Electric Lady
Studios, among others. You'll also get the inside scoop on such classic Tommy-related releases as Billy Cobham's "Spectrum", the James
Gang's "Bang" and "Miami", and Deep Purple's "Come Taste the Band", plus Tommy's two cult classic solo albums, "Teaser" and "Private
Eyes". Additionally, new information is gathered around the events that led to Tommy's tragic passing in 1976, after a show in Miami with
Jeff Beck.
"Touched by Magic" is available through www.lulu.com for $19.98 (U.S.), and there is a sample chapter to read at the site (the chapter is
titled "Moxy/Teaser/Deep Purple").

Dave Mustaine issues new Megadeth album update
On January 7, Megadeth commenced the recording process for its twelfth studio album
at the band's own Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California. The CD is once again
being helmed by acclaimed British producer Andy "Undie" Sneap, who produced
Megadeth's last album, United Abominations (May 2007, Roadrunner Records).
Tentatively due later this year via Roadrunner Records, Megadeth's forthcoming LP will
be the group's first with guitarist Chris Broderick, who replaced Glen Drover at the end
of 2007.
Megadeth's mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following update on the band's
official web site:
"I have just determined whilst listenening down to the songs that I have miscounted and
we don't have the 13 that I thought we had, and that we only have 12 songs. I guess
we had one song written down under two different names, and what a letdown. Either
way, I was thrashing to this new stuff, and except the songs that are intentionally
slower in certain parts, this is a rather jaunty little record.
"We are just about ready to send Shawn [Drover] home from doing his drum tracks, which means in real fuzzy math, that we are almost
25% done with the recordings. Now we just need to continue to structure the songs for lyrics, and solos and we are done!
"Please keep your fingers crossed that we will be able to get this sucker in the pipeline at Roadrunner before we leave for [the] Priest
Feast [European tour with Judas Priest and Testament]! Until then, I am going to [be] working my ass off. Here's to asslessness
everywhere!!!"
Dave Mustaine recently told Revolver magazine that Megadeth's upcoming CD will contain "stuff that's melodic like nobody's business, stuff
that's heavier than hell, and stuff that's a combination of both." He said, "The way I write, I'll play a riff and tape it and save it. And if
I don't use it now, I'll use it later. The very first song I ever wrote, 'Rust In Peace… Polaris', didn't appear on anything until the fourth
Megadeth record. Right now, there are about 20 songs that are in the making, and there's another good 25-to-30 hours worth of guitar
riffs on tape. And I've also got a lot of old lyrics I've assembled over my career. Some of it's relevant to this day and age; some of it is
stuff that, if I released it, would probably get me in a lot of trouble. Those songs deal with a lot of the anger that I felt when I was
younger and reading things like [the 1971 underground manual for making homemade explosives] 'The Anarchist Cookbook'."
In a recent online posting, Mustaine stated about the band's new material, "I am more excited about this new record than I was with
United Abominations or anything in the last several years. . . I am not saying that this is Rust In Peace 2! But I can say that the five out
of nine songs I have arranged, I like and love them all, and every one of the songs has one or more of the strong points of me as a
guitarist being showcased instead of me writing songs for radio — radio that won't play us anyway. . . This is really going to be a record
that will make a lot of people that thought we couldn't do it anymore sit up and take notice."
