Anthrax prepares to enter sessions with new vocalist
By Thom Copher
For those of you who thought that thrash legends Anthrax had fallen out of existence after the "reunion" had run its course,
think again. News from the band's camp reveals that 'Thrax rockin' is alive and well and geared to enter the studio on
November 4.
Drummer Charlie Benante wrote on the band's website (anthrax.com) that he, Scott Ian (guitar), Frank Bello (bass), returning
lead guitarist Rob Caggiano and new singer Dan Nelson have concocted 13 originals to go along with 4-to-5 b-side covers.
Working titles for the tentative Worship Music include "Down Goes the Sun," "Face With No Name," "The Devil You Know" and
"Earth on Hell." Benante describes the material as a cross between old-school, We've Come For You All and the heavier
direction with which Anthrax has recently been experimenting.
"The new tunes are very strong. This record is not forced, it is a very organic and honest representation of where we are as a
band and as writers," says Benante. "I hear many things nowadays that sounds forced and I ain't digging that. (Our new)
music itself is epic... it sends chills up my spine."
Worship Music will be Anthrax' first release since the fragmenting of the classic lineup where vocalist Joey Belladonna and lead
guitarist Dan Spitz left the band. Caggiano, who was on board for the band's last studio album, 2003's W.C.F.Y.A., replaces
Sptiz while virtual unknown Dan Nelson fills Belladonna's shoes.
Two other tunes, "Revolution Screams" and "Vampyres" can be sampled below.
